In this era of rapid changes of education environment, it is essential for the principals to apply instructional leadership to improve the school effectiveness by guiding the school teachers and students. This systematic review analyses 16 recent studies on instructional leadership in ASEAN educational settings. It emphasizes the crucial role of instructional leadership in improving teacher development, organizational commitment, and student outcomes. The research covers various contexts, including primary and vocational schools in countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. Key findings show that effective instructional leadership significantly influences teacher professional growth, school climate, and student achievement. The studies reveal intricate relationships between leadership practices and educational outcomes, often influenced by factors like teacher self-efficacy and school health. Key themes include adapting leadership strategies to technological advancements and unprecedented challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. The review also identifies variations in leadership perceptions and practices based on demographic factors. While consistently emphasizing the importance of instructional leadership, the research underscores the necessity of context-sensitive approaches. This comprehensive analysis provides valuable insights for educational policymakers and administrators, highlighting the critical role of instructional leadership in advancing educational quality and preparing students for future challenges.
