Abstract

This paper is an attempt to provide foundational information about Islamic perspectives and western views of mental health. This study aims to address this gap by comparing and contrasting the principles of Islamic scripturally-based psychology with those of Western mainstream psychology, with a focus on psychotherapy and mental health. With a focus on humanistic, psychotherapeutic, and Freudian psychology, this article will compare and contrast Islamic psychology with these schools of thought. Within the bounds of this study, the topic of human nature will be touched upon in passing in order to shed light on mental health-related problems. It is believed that if mental health is properly understood and managed, it could assist individuals in living fulfilling lives where they achieve inner and outer harmony. Researchers will use textual analysis to sift through pertinent material for this qualitative study. Further research is also suggested as a guide for researchers in the future.
